Recently, deep reinforcement learning DRL frameworks have gained considerable attention as a new approach: they can automate the design of a solver while relying less on sophisticated domain knowledge of the target problem.
However, the existing DRL solvers determine the solution using a number of stages proportional to the size of the solution, which severely limits their applicability to large-scale graphs.
In this paper, we seek to resolve this issue by proposing a novel DRL scheme where the agent adaptively shrinks or stretch the number of stages by learning to defer the determination of the solution at each stage.
We apply the proposed framework, coined Learning what to Defer LwDto the maximum independent set MIS problem, and demonstrate its significant improvement over the current state-of-the-art DRL scheme. We also show that LwD can outperform the conventional MIS solvers on large-scale graphs having millions of vertices, under a limited time budget.This is a new event format to encourage more participant interaction, especially with ICML going virtual this year.
The overall goal of the un-workshop is to advance research through collaboration and increased interaction among participants from diverse backgrounds. A breakout session is a 1-hour free-form discussion overseen by leaders and with assistance from facilitators to take notes and encourage participant interactions. A complete proposal consists of a 1 page blind PDF example here and the names and bios of leaders submitted separately in the application form.
We strongly recommend having at least 2 leaders, with a diverse set of leaders preferred see selection criteria below. The names of facilitators can also be provided if known at submission time. Otherwise, the organizers will match facilitators to breakout sessions. Only one proposal submission per leader is allowed. If there are multiple leaders, only one leader needs to submit the proposal. There are no proceedings. WiML registration fee funding is prioritized for accepted breakout session leaders who fulfill certain eligibility criteria see details below and do not have any other sources of funding.
If you are interested in facilitating a breakout session but have not yet connected with anyone submitting a breakout session proposal, you can indicate your interest in the application form.
Organizers will match selected facilitators to breakout sessions. The poster may describe new, previously, concurrently published, or work-in-progress research.
Posters in theory, methods, and applications are welcome. The poster presenter does not need to be the first author of the work. Only one poster submission per presenter is allowed. Accepted posters will be presented in a casual, informal setting. This setting is very different from formal poster sessions, e. While the exact presentation format is still being determined, it may be as simple as a webpage with poster PDF and pre-recorded video.
There are no oral or spotlight presentations. The virtual nature of ICML and this un-workshop allows individuals from all over the world to attend. Accepted breakout session leaders who fulfill the above eligibility criteria and do not have any other sources of funding will be prioritized for WiML funding.
Other participants are also encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to individuals from underrepresented regions or groups, first-time attendees of ICML or similar conferences, and individuals who would benefit the most from this funding.
Funding recipients must participate in at least one breakout session as a leader, facilitator, or attendee. Due to limited funding, we may not be able to support everyone eligible; however, we hope to support as many eligible applicants as possible.

Second, to provide constructive feedback to authors that they can use to improve their work. Your role as a reviewer is critical to both goals. However, such work may be of high importance for the progress of the field in the long run, so please try to be aware of this bias, and avoid dismissive criticism.

Although this part of the review may not provide much new information to authors, it is invaluable to the meta-reviewers and program chairs, and it can help the authors determine whether there are misunderstandings that need to be addressed in their author response. Please be brief, but specific.
In this field, you should list the main contributions of the paper. One measure of the significance of a contribution is your belief about the level to which researchers or practitioners will build off of or use the proposed ideas.
Papers that explore new territory or point out new directions for research are preferable to papers that advance the state of the art only incrementally. You should evaluate how strong this paper is, weighing its strengths against any potential flaws.
Your evaluation should reflect absolute judgments of the contributions made by each paper. You should not assume that you have received an unbiased sample of papers, nor should you adjust your answers to achieve an artificial balance of positive and negative recommendations across your batch of papers.
In this section, you need to write concrete arguments that explain why you gave a particular recommendation to the submission. Your arguments should be objective, specific, concise and polite. Please avoid vague, subjective complaints. Remember that you are not reviewing your personal level of interest in the submission, but its scientific contribution to the field.
For each argument, try to briefly explain its significance. If some argument requires a long explanation, then it is ok to write that explanation in the the next section on detailed comments to authors, but make sure you do not make any unsubstantiated claims for instance, if you assert that some aspect of the paper has been done before, please provide relevant citations to that claim. In order to provide the most useful feedback to authors, write this section in a top-down manner and start from the most important aspects.
For example, if you want to support some of the arguments you made in the previous section, then this justification should come at the beginning of this section. Beyond clarification of the arguments, please comment on the following criteria, as appropriate for the paper:.
Again, begin with the comments you find the most significant and put the least significant comments which can be nevertheless very useful for authors at the end of this section. The following are examples of contributions a paper might make.
Call for Participation
This list is not exhaustive, and a single paper may make multiple contributions. Below are examples of good comments with respect to each of these criteria. Try to answer the following questions: Are the results important? Are others researchers or practitioners likely to use the ideas or build on them?
Does the submission address a difficult task in a better way than previous work? Does it advance the state of the art in a demonstrable way? Does it provide unique data, unique conclusions about existing data, or a unique theoretical or experimental approach? This paper provides a novel proof that is conceptually simple and elegant, and I found its presentation very clear.
